Nollywood actor, James Ikechukwu, also known by his stage name as Jim Iyke, has revealed how he came up with the name.

In an interview Friday with Tea Ray Podcast’s Temisan Emmanuel, the actor said he wanted to give himself a different name than his family.

While sharing his story, he said, “We don’t share the same name. My real name is James Ikechukwu Esomughua Okelue.

Okelue is my great-grandfather’s name and everyone has that surname. Of course, from day one, I understood that part before if I knew what was going on in the industry. I said that if I have to embark on this journey, I will go alone. I will go through the hardships and ups and downs that come with this journey and if it works out, I will be the center of it.

“If not, I would have exempted these people from everything that goes with it. I had this strategy from day one and now there is an extension to my next generation, my sons. I said, what if I’m so famous and I can’t walk around in public places, what would happen to my relationship with my sisters? I made this decision and I said you know what? What can I remember from my name? James Jim; Ikechukwu-Iyke. And that was it. Jim Iyke was born.
