American Manganese Inc. Obtains 99% Manganese Extraction for US Defense Logistics Agency’s Wenden Storage Project
SURREY, BC / ACCESSWIRE / February 4, 2021 / American Manganese Inc. (“AMY“or the”Society“) is pleased to report positive manganese mining results for the company-wide Wenden Inventory Salvage and Advanced Materials Processing project funded by the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). Following a series of scale tests to determine optimal process conditions, leach testing using AMY’s patented manganese process resulted in up to 99% manganese extraction. .
The most recent results from American Manganese are a positive first step in the comprehensive DLA project, aimed at providing a proof of concept for processing the Wenden Stockpile material to efficiently produce electrolytic manganese metal (EMM). Additional bench scale testing and reporting will include unit operations for solid-liquid separation, residue characterization, manganese carbonate precipitation, and EMM testing.
“I am extremely excited about the progress and optimization of our Wenden Stockpile project,” said Larry Reaugh, President and CEO of American Manganese. “Our goal is to model the bench scale project for DLA taking into account a larger commercial advanced material processing facility at the Wenden reserve.”
Bench-scale tests are used to define appropriate unit operations and develop a commercially viable process scheme that could potentially produce a strategic and national supply of EMMs from the US National Defense stockpile in Wenden, Ariz., which consists of manganese ore mined in the 1950s and 1960s. Allowing for a future advanced material processing facility, bench scale tests provide improvements in process patterns that could potentially reduce costs. equipment footprint requirements and operating costs.
American Manganese Inc. is a critical metals company focused on recycling lithium-ion batteries (RecyclLiCo ™) and the production of electrolytic manganese metal from low-grade US resources. The recycling process enables high extraction of cathode metals, such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese and high purity aluminum, with minimal processing steps. American Manganese Inc. aims to commercialize its revolutionary patented RecycLiCo ™ process and become an industry leader in recycling cathode materials from lithium-ion battery manufacturing waste.
