Dremio Cloud Empowers Self-Service and Interactive Analytics on the Data Lake
Dremio announced its cloud-based native SQL data lake service, Dremio Cloud. Designed specifically for the cloud, Dremio Cloud makes cloud data lakes 10x easier, while providing endless scalability and security. Dremio Cloud enables organizations of any size to take advantage of a copyless open data architecture that eliminates the need to copy data into expensive, proprietary data warehouses.
Dremio Cloud reinvents the traditional data lake by combining the best of traditional data warehouses and data lakes into one SQL lake, while removing the limitations of traditional data warehouses resulting from closed data architectures. Dremio Cloud enables high performance SQL workloads directly to cloud storage, eliminating the cost and complexity of copying and moving data.
While most data lake engines take weeks or months to go into production, a user can be up and running with Dremio Cloud in five minutes. The auto-onboard option establishes the necessary connection to the user’s AWS account, allowing data consumers to connect through their preferred tools and start querying data instantly. Dremio Cloud users have no software to install, configure, or upgrade, and no infrastructure to scale, manage, and monitor.
Dremio Cloud is not only easier for data teams, but also for data consumers such as analysts and data scientists. It includes Dremio’s patent-pending query acceleration technologies (C3 and Data Reflections), a semantic layer, and native single sign-on (OAuth 2.0) connectors in Tableau and Power BI. Businesses can run production BI workloads directly on their cloud data lake, and data scientists can gain high-speed access to result sets through Apache Arrow.
Dremio Cloud was designed for the analytical workloads of all businesses, from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups. The microservices and cloud-native service mesh architecture of the Dremio control plane provide unlimited query planning capability, while the multi-engine and multi-replica data plane architecture automatically elastically scales with load of work. Resources are scaled on demand to use only what is needed. When user demand drops to zero during periods of inactivity, customers incur no Dremio and AWS costs. Additional financial governance capabilities provide cost visibility, control and predictability.
“We designed Dremio to automatically handle any scale with consistent query performance so businesses can achieve data democratization while paying only for what they really need,” said Tomer Shiran, Founder and product manager of Dremio. “This type of cost-effective, high-performance scaling was a central design principle of Dremio. We wanted to be sure that data teams could achieve superior value for money and trust the cost transparency of our platform.
Dremio was specifically designed to provide the industry’s high levels of security with multiple layers of protection, and is launching its cloud service with System On Chip (SOC) 2 compliance. Data is encrypted both at rest and over the wire, with key management that facilitates secure communication between customers, the control plane and the data plane. Advanced Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) allows organizations to set privileges on every set of data and object in the system. Additionally, businesses that use corporate identity or social identity providers (eg, Okta) can leverage their existing user and group definitions in Dremio.
“Dremio serves many of the world’s largest companies, including those in highly regulated industries such as financial services and healthcare,” said Thirumalesh Reddy, vice president of engineering and safety at Dremio. “We have assembled a team of world-class cloud security engineers and built security into every aspect of our infrastructure and product. “
Dremio Cloud will be unveiled today at Subsurface Live, a two-day virtual conference focused on educating and empowering a growing community of data lake practitioners with expert-led sessions on the latest open source innovations. in the ecosystem of cloud data lakes.
“Our goal is to streamline business research activities and analysis of portfolio companies using data-driven methodologies.
