Hello, my name is: Brycen Cashin
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – Brycen Cashin is Pacelli’s best offensive player. With 29 touchdowns on the ground, he has the most in the state by three.
But the story of the running back in football begins in the family and a long history at Pacelli. As Brycen gallops towards the end zone, he has a special message that crosses his mind.
“Run your hardest, run in daylight. That’s what my grandfather always likes to say, ”Cashin said.
For the running back star, football is in his blood.
“My father played football. It was a bit of a family affair. My family has always loved football, ”Cashin said.
He does not lie. His whole family has a history of running for the Cardinals.
“We were all ball carriers. My dad was in the 70s, I was in the 90s and my brothers were after me, ”said his dad, Sean.
His grandfather Tom, his uncle Andy and his father Sean all sit in the Pacelli Athletic Hall of Fame.
“It’s great to be able to talk to and understand my father, my uncles and my grandfather about football. We break down games, our games, college games. Anything, ”Cashin said.
Cashin broke the school record for career touchdowns on Friday at 74. His dad had 71.
The question between the two is whether Brycen is better than his father. Brycen says it’s hard to say, but Sean thinks Brycen has more talent.
” He is taller than me. He’s faster than me. He’s probably bigger than me, but I certainly wasn’t as thin as him. And he’s definitely a lot faster than I’ve ever been, ”said Sean Cashin.
It looks like Brycen will be joining his family’s plaques on the walls of Pacelli High School. But for the running back, it comes back to that thought in his head. His grandfather sent him this special message.
At each match, “run the daylight” passes through his thoughts.
“Hearing this from my grandparents is really important to me,” Cashin said.
