Identify problems before they become a problem
LSM TyreGuard with TMSystem if installed on a large part of Woods fleet of prime movers, A-double and AB-triple road trains and container loaders.
With a history dating back to the 1950s, the family-owned Woods Group serves Australia’s agricultural industry, including farming, production through to transportation.
Woods Transport is one of six companies in the group. Its main operations center on container movements to the port for export and feedlot delivery, serving southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Depots are located in Goondiwindi, Toowoomba and Brisbane; and the sizable fleet consists of 40 prime movers and over 100 trailers.
Since 2016, Woods Transport has been using LSM TyreGuard with integrated tire monitoring systems (TMSystem) on a large portion of its fleet of prime movers, A-double and AB-triple road trains and container loaders.
“It has been installed on our road trains and our supply trailers. The system allows us to identify potential problems before they become major. LSM TyreGuard can help prevent things from punctures causing punctures, anything that causes extra friction from a misaligned or broken axle, jammed brakes and failing brake boosters, to fire in axle hubs” , explained Anne Lipp, chief compliance officer at Woods Transport.
“It’s all about prevention and being able to monitor and identify problems to avoid costly breakdowns, property damage, delays or work stoppages.
The LSM FSM Fleet Tracking and Safety Manager enables remote tire monitoring, providing the dispatch team with online alerts, analysis and reporting data, as well as fast and accurate management information tires, helping the team to ensure compliance.
The LSM TyreGuard MTR360 Multi-Trailer Combination TMSystem is installed on Woods Transport’s fleet of road trains. While the LSM TyreGuard CE360 Heavy Machine TMSystems is also suitable for many container loaders.
The system provides live tracking and monitoring. “You can actually monitor the pressures and temperatures from your computer in the office, as well as the driver seeing all of this on his main engine display screen. We’ve implemented SMS and email so that the system can send an alert whenever it identifies a problem. In addition to identifying the truck, it also tells us the position of the wheel the problem is related to,” Lipp said.
She added that just recently the system has taken hold, avoiding what might otherwise have been a costly problem. “A high temperature alert was transmitted for the truck and the driver received an alert in the cab. He stopped to check the axle hub and we were able to pull out a spare piece of equipment to being able to remove the load and pressure from the damaged cart. This meant that we could get the cart repaired before it resulted in complete failure or a complete axle replacement. We were able to bring this cart into the shop and get it fixed without causing too much major drama.
“It’s an easy system to use and identify where problems may arise. If the system signals a problem somewhere, it is usually easily identified and repaired with interchangeable parts.
LSM also offers the TyreGuard Smartlink tool/tablet, an offline tool for manual inspections, programming, maintenance and offline storage and analysis of tire pressure and temperature data, especially when telemetry is n is not available.
