Independent study defense in computer science

Eric Binnendyk will present his independent study defense.
His talk is slanted “An Intelligent Token Bucket-Based Queue Management Strategy for Named Data Networking QoS”
Abstract:
Named Data Network (NDN) is a representative architecture of Information Centric Network (ICN), which has proven to be a promising solution to meet the communication needs of a variety of intelligent systems such as smart grids , smart cities and smart homes. Compared to the traditional host-centric IP network, NDN is based on the content-centric communication model where data objects are retrieved by names instead of being delivered to a destination address.
One of the main challenges facing NDN is how to provide differential quality of service (QoS) to network traffics with different priority levels. In this report, we introduce a new QoS intelligent queuing strategy based on a token bucket strategy. Token bucket rates for queues with different priority levels are adaptively adjusted with a piecewise linear loss function as a function of traffic state. Simulations are performed using the ndnSIM simulator. The results show that the proposed strategy has better performance than strategies based on fixed token bucket rates.
