LG Innotek commits to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040

The computer component maker said it would meet all of its electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2030 and reach a state of net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2040.
Electricity accounts for over 90% of LG Innotek’s greenhouse gas emissions.
To achieve its goal, the company said it would introduce more solar power generation facilities at its domestic facilities, sign power purchase agreements with renewable energy providers and pay extra to Korea. This year, LG Innotek will purchase 192 gigawatt hours of electricity generated from renewable energy under Kepco’s program, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of some 65,000 homes.
The company also plans to increase the use of renewable energy in its overseas production facilities by introducing solar power generation facilities, signing power purchase agreements and obtaining certifications. renewable energy.
LG Innotek said it will also expand resource circulation efforts aimed at zero waste going to landfill at all of its locations globally.
The company’s Gumi plant in North Gyeongsang Province last year received a “Zero Waste to Landfill” platinum-level certification from the international safety certification company Underwriters Laboratories.
LG Innotek also plans to replace all of its vehicles with zero-emission cars by 2030 and has expanded electric car charging infrastructure at its facilities nationwide.
“We will increase investment and introduce technologies to minimize the environmental effects of our business operations and take the lead in a sustainable ecosystem,” LG Innotek general manager Jeong Cheol-dong said, adding that the company would increase customer value by pursuing a balanced environment, social standards and corporate governance.
