(TOMS RIVER, NJ) — In honor of Juneteenth, the Ocean County Library will feature a live show by Michelle Washington Wilson, “When the Cavalry Came to Call: A Juneteenth Presentation.” It will be held at the Toms River branch on Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. and at the Little Egg Harbor branch on Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m.
Juneteenth National Independence Day is a federal holiday that commemorates emancipation and celebrates African-American culture. The program will include stories and poems dedicated to the celebration of African-American emancipation.
Ms. Wilson has dedicated more than 30 years to writing, performing and storytelling across North America and the Caribbean, sharing stories from around the world. She appears in two books, Legendary inhabitants of the pine forests from New Jersey and Small towns, black lives. Both can be found in the Ocean County Library system.
