New ranking identifies TAMIU as the cheapest public university in Texas

In an impressive new ranking, Texas A&M International University was identified as the cheapest public college / university in Texas by Student Loan Hero, a LendingTree company.
Student Loan Hero researchers analyzed data from more than 1,800 colleges and universities that have enrolled at least 1,000 students and mainly award bachelor’s degrees.
Analysts then identified the most and cheapest public and private colleges by net price. They define net price as what students actually pay, on average, to attend college / university, including tuition, fees, and supplies, less financial aid, scholarships, and grants – in schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Their team identified TAMIU’s net price at $ 3,074, the lowest among public schools in the state of Texas. The most expensive public school has been identified as Texas Southern University in Houston ($ 19,340). According to Student Loan Hero, the cheapest private school was Huston-Tillotson University in Austin ($ 16,775), while the most expensive private school was Texas Christian University in Fort Worth ($ 36,811).
TAMIU President Dr Pablo Arenaz said the ranking underscores the university’s commitment to accessibility and excellence.
“This ranking does not surprise us. We work diligently to reduce student costs through innovative programs and services, without ever sacrificing our offer of excellent education to our students. While this ranking affirms it, it also serves to renew our commitment to continue to “Go Beyond”, as we always say. I hope that the parents of our future students will keep this commitment in mind as they explore the higher education options available to them, ”said Arenaz.
Among the overall national results, the authors note that the net prices of public colleges and universities vary widely, but not as much as the differences between public and private institutions. They identify California as having the largest gap, around $ 18,000 and over, between California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo ($ 21,595) and California State University-Los Angeles ($ 2,768).
The authors of the ranking conclude that the net price of an education is an investment, and individuals should think about how much they could earn or lose in potential income given what they are studying and where. They also note that “throwing money at a big school” may not be the best learning environment for everyone.
Student Loan Hero was founded in 2012 by Andy Josuweit and was acquired by LendingTree in 2018.
