Norwalk Adopts My Brother’s Keeper Initiative to Empower Students of Color
NORWALK — Seneca Greenwood took a deep breath then exhaled and resumed the conversation with her father. Instead of continuing to argue, he took a moment and resolved their disagreement peacefully.
The breathing exercise was a technique Greenwood learned from mindfulness expert Curtis Smith when My Brother’s Keeper launched in Norwalk Public Schools last month. The program, launched by former President Barack Obama in 2014, aims to connect young men of color to the mentorship, support networks and skills they need to reach their full potential.
