Protem Speaker, newly elected MPs sworn in; The name of the CM will probably be announced in the evening

Newly elected MPs from Uttarakhand were sworn in as members of the Legislative Assembly on Monday. Protem Chairman Bansidhar Bhagat swore an oath of office and secrecy to MPs.

Prior to the formation of government in Uttarakhand, Governor General (Retired) Gurmit Singh swore in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bansidhar Bhagat as Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, the BJP is due to hold a legislative party meeting in the evening to elect the leader who will also be the next chief minister of Uttarakhand.
Notably, BJP MP and former minister Rekha Arya backed Pushkar Singh Dhami as the next chief minister. Several MPs, including Ganesh Joshi and Arvind Pandey, also came out in favor of Dhami as leader of the legislative party.
So far, six BJP MPs have expressed their willingness to quit their Assembly seats to help Dhami get elected to the House. Dhami lost his Khatima seat to Congress candidate Bhuwan Chandra Kapri by a margin of 6,579 votes. He got a total of 41,598 votes with a 44.8% vote share against Kapri who got 48,177 votes with a whopping 51.89% vote share.
Other likely names for the top job include those of Chaubattakhal MLA Satpal Maharaj, Shrinagar MLA Dhan Singh Rawat, former Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Union Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt.
All eyes on BJP legislative party meeting
The meeting, which is expected to be attended by BJP’s central observers for Uttarakhand – Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi – will be held at the party office in the state. on Balbir Road at 5 p.m.
The BJP won the popular mandate for the second consecutive term in Uttarakhand, winning 47 seats out of the 70 Assembly members.
