Rural communities want the governor to partner with them
West Texas families could soon see their phone and internet bills increase to between $ 25 and $ 175 per month because Gov. Greg Abbott and his Public Utility Commission (PUC) appointees funded Texas Universal Service Fund, a state administered fund that supports rural broadband.
Due to the high cost for telecom providers to offer telephone and internet services in hard-to-reach areas of counties like Andrews, Glasscock and Upton, the Universal Service Fund subsidizes these providers, keeping costs affordable for rural consumers.
