Samsung Introduces Industry’s First Open Source Solution for CXL Memory Platform
Samsung Electronics CXL Memory Expansion (Samsung Electronics)
Dubbed an “Scalable Memory Development Kit,” or SMDK, it is the industry’s first solution for customers of the relatively new CXL memory platform developed by Samsung in May.
CXL is an open interconnect standard that enables not only processors, but also other high-performance computer systems such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data, to effectively expand system memory capacity. using DRAM.
SMDK can be described as a complete software kit consisting of libraries and application programming interfaces.
Libraries are pre-built, reusable sets of code used by developers to create programs, and the API serves as a pathway to libraries. And the API speeds up the program creation process by allowing developers to bypass the process of rebuilding the codes needed to create a program.
The new software kit will help software developers adjust memory capacity and bandwidth to levels suitable for various system environments.
It is important to develop such software so that data centers and business systems can run next generation memory solutions like CXL smoothly.
“Today, Samsung is strengthening its commitment to providing a complete memory solution that encompasses both hardware and software, so that IT OEMs can integrate new technologies into their systems much more efficiently,” said Park Cheol-min , vice president of memory product planning at Samsung. .
The company plans to open its SMDK in the first half of next year after performing initial testing with industry leaders on various applications such as AI, edge, and cloud.
