UConn men’s basketball freshman Rahsool Diggins leaves program

Rahsool Diggins arrived at Storrs full of confidence and swagger, seemingly determined to be one of the program’s next big point guards one day.
He ended up playing just 46 minutes in nine games as a Husky.
Diggins has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple sources. A national Philadelphia top-50 rookie, the 6-foot-2 point guard played little more than foul time as a rookie at UConn. He played 12 minutes in a blowout against Grambling, but otherwise never more than nine minutes in any game. Diggins has only appeared in four Big East games – all in timeouts – and played in just eight minutes of those games.
“A combination of (wanting to play) closer to home, a little more playing time,” said John Mosco, Diggins’ coach at Archbishop Wood in Philadelphia. “He was not kicked out. It was ‘Sool’s’ decision. Danny (Hurley) wanted him to stay.
Mosco said a few schools have already shown interest in Diggins.
In February, Mosco told Hearst Connecticut Media that Diggins was frustrated with his lack of playing time at the start of the season but was “starting to figure it out.”
“He and Danny talked,” Mosco said at the time. “Danny has to trust him, he has to trust Danny. It’s a long process.
A process that ultimately only lasted one season at Storrs.
Diggins, who picked UConn over Villanova, Kansas, Florida, Seton Hall and others, may have been in line for more playing time next season, with RJ Cole announcing he’s giving up his year additional eligibility and he turns pro.
Now the only real UConn point guard on the list is Jalen Gaffney. The Huskies will almost certainly dive into the transfer portal to try and bring at least one more ballplayer into the program.
