Welsh Rugby Union | Wales and regions
There are two uncapped players in the starting lineup – center Carys Williams-Morris and winger Lowri Norkett – as well as a third on the bench – scrum-half Eloise Hayward.
There are also the first opportunities of the year in a Wales shirt for hooker Kat Evans, second row Abbie Fleming and third row Manon Johnes who have all clinched a place in the starting XV. Winger Jasmine Joyce returns to the side after undergoing shoulder surgery in May and center Hannah Jones is the side’s captain.
Cunningham said: “This week has certainly already served a valuable purpose in helping us raise the standard of our preparation ahead of the Rugby World Cup. The players have worked very hard throughout this block and we are all looking forward to testing ourselves against the World No. 4 team on Saturday.
“The selection rewards players who have really impressed in training recently and also gives us the chance to see players we haven’t seen in a Wales shirt as a managerial team. Abbie Fleming, Manon Johnes and Kat Evans fully deserve the opportunity after working very hard, they didn’t have much luck in the Six Nations so now is their chance to shine.
“And then we have first-time opportunities for Lowri Norkett who has also formed the house and Carys Williams who has settled into our environment very well. They are both very dynamic players and give us different attacking options.
“It’s great to see Jaz back on the pitch after recovering well from his layoff and we’re delighted to hand Hannah the captaincy for this game. Siwan is on the bench and has a different role this week. , but we are developing leadership in a number of areas and everyone will support Hannah in this role that she fully deserves.
“We are 90 per cent focused on ourselves this week and try not to worry too much about the opposition. We played against them last fall and trained against them in the week. They are impressive athletes and they’re really up for this home game, but we can’t wait to see how we go.
